Costa Vicentina
The Southwest Alentejo and the Vicentine Coast Natural Park, where The Cerca Houses are situated, is the part of the Alentejo facing west, confined by the Atlantic Ocean.
It constitutes a coastal strip with over 100 km of coastline, stretching from Sines to Burgau in the Algarve. The landscape along the Atlantic coast features rugged cliffs shaped by erosion over time, displaying varied forms and colors. Moving further inland, one approaches the typical Alentejo landscape of plains interspersed with verdant valleys, giving this Alentejo region very distinctive characteristics - "A Different Alentejo".
The Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park is the best-preserved stretch of European coastline in terms of unique species of fauna and flora. It is consequently visited by numerous zoologists and botanists from around the world. Many bird species are rare here, as are otters, making it the only place in Portugal - and one of the last in Europe - where they can be found in their natural marine habitat.
The beaches are another major attraction of this Park, highly sought after for water sports activities.
